The Hazard Mitigation Plan (or HazMit Plan), is a team collaboration between Virginia Tech's Emergency Management and CGIT. The purpose of the HazMit Plan Update is that the university and community evolve over time, so these updates are necessary. Potential hazards and vulnerabilities evolve over time as well. New information about these hazards and vulnerabilities becomes available in between these updates. Each update allows broadening inclusion and representation in the planning process. Once this plan is completed in April 2023, it will be submitted to Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
